This book was used in the new colonies to teach young children. It was used to teach reading but has the foundational principles of the Gospel! I encourage everyone to read what children were being taught in school in the 1700's and even 1800's. This will make you really question our concept of separation of church and state that is taught in schools these days.

The New-England Primer was the foundational reader / primer for all or most of the Founders of our Nation. As I held this book in my hands for the first time and skimmed through it, I was amazed!!! I whole heartedly agree with many of the people who have also written a review, that stated that for any family that considers Christ to be the center of their home, this book is a MUST HAVE!!! To save you some money, a person can by the same New-England Primer in the blue hard back cover for much less than the maroon one on this page. I recommend to buy two at a time and pass one on to a friend, then tell the friend to do the same, in order to get the truth of our nation's Biblical history and knowledge out to the citizens as quickly as possible. I bought this for my Grandchildren. If schools are going to take God out then we will keep them learning God at Home.

Totally NOT what I expected ... it was BETTER! I was re-schooled by the reading of this tiny treasure! However, this book may prove to be difficult and challenging for the faint-hearted in more ways than one. At first I thought 'Oh, how cute! Conveniently pocket-sized!' ... then 'Uh, oh, the typography is hard to read ... ' to 'Wow! Major Education!' There are foundational principles and moral values PACKED in this tiny volume. I jealously guard this replica and I have ordered more updated, modern versions to share with as gifts.

All Christian families should have this little book, even though it is written in old English. Our children love it. It also reminds us of a time when few actually had schools to attend and were therefore self educated. It reminds us that life was not always easy as it is today and death was very present.

If you want to get a realization of where our education system once was and compare to where it is now, buy this book and see how for we have dropped!

I did not realize that it would be so small. The kids liked the idea of taking it out of our library when I introduced the book. It was just hard for them to read because of the small print. I did have to explain the differences in the letter formation (especially the 's')

I recently saw an exhibit of the entire collection of Audubon illustrations. That was the motivation to purchase this book. It is complete and printed on nice stock with excellent renditions of the illustrations. My only complaint is that some of the larger plates that are "landscape" are printed straddling the binding. It just ruins the illustration. The drawings that required that should have been printed either on a foldout that preserved the integrity of the print or on the long axis of the book. I would rather turn the book 90 degrees to view the intact illustration than have it broken by the binding. Disappointing, given the price of the book..

Nice book. shipping was great and delivery fast so no quibbles there. Images are not quite as accurate as with other more recent publications such as the Sterling/Sibley effort, (which is gorgeous and a bargain). Most of the images in this book are good to very good, and a few are not so good. Dark colored birds lose some of their relief and detail. It is as if many images were underexposed if they had been photos. However what I do love are the wonderful annotations by Roger Peterson on each of the 435 birds. They were carefully researched and thoughtfully written. Also, unlike some criticisms, I like the ordering of the birds by genus and species. I can see how Audubon treated similar birds. So what the reader is getting with this Abbeville production is a combo art book and ornithological treatment of Audubon's birds, which makes sense given that Mr Peterson was so involved in the production. . The intro written by Mr Peterson is also excellent. One final word of caution the book is huge and heavy, that is good and bad. good because you get large bordering on poster sized images. Bad in that one does not easily handle this thing. Lastly the binding and overall physical construction is outstanding. Comes in a beautiful slip case.

This is just as described. A tiny version of the real book. It's hard cover easily hand held and seems to be sturdy. The picture quality is good but it's difficult to see the fine details. This is no fault of the book but just the nature of such a small book. There is a brief biography in the front but if you need reading glasses this may be difficult as the words are very small. It's a nice book for kids to look at and if you don't want to spend the money on the large version. It can easily be carried around, taken to bed to flip through. However, I think to see the true beauty of the work you may want to buy the large coffee table size. Overall, I'm happy with purchase. It is exactly as expected and explained in description.

This book may be "tiny" but it's telling. John James Audubon's birds are a classic of design, wonderfully realistic, and authentically American. Well worth having or to give as a present.

This "baby elephant folio" is indeed a tiny but complete book of Audubon's "Birds of America." It is a perfect edition to give as a gift to friends and family who are Audubon aficionados. It is great quality and the price can't be beat; I purchased several.I am adding this note: I have been reading through all the reviews and comments to reviews and it is obvious that many of the reviews are referring to a different sized edition of "Audubon's Birds of America" that have been for sale on Amazon. The item I wrote my review for and what is titled for sale as "Audubon's Birds of America" (Tiny Folio) is not the same book most people are reviewing, so it is confusing. The so-called "tiny folio" is not actually the title of the book being sold here. The book, which IS tiny and measures 4.5 x 4.3 x 1.5 inches, is hard covered and contains 435 pages. It is small but fully packed! It is sturdy! The actual title is "The National Audubon Society BABY Elephant Folio Audubon's Birds of America." It doesn't say "tiny" anywhere, only in Amazon's description. This book is not a coffee table book, it isn't for scholars, it isn't so big it won't fit into a bookcase, it sits nicely in the palm of your hand, actually covering just the palm of your hand, and it is beautiful! It is a great gift for someone who has everything, or someone who has shown some interest in Audubon's major work but doesn't want a bigger book, it is great to have in your own bookcase or on the corner of the desk. I think Amazon needs to review its description for this BABY folio and take out the "tiny" from the description and then when they get other editions (which are sure to be larger) to be sure they have the correct description for them. BUYER BEWARE! This book is very small but you will love it!

Book I received came in a beautiful box case.This book makes a great gift, but the person who you are giving it to, needs to be in healthy and strong shape.Book is much too large for normal sized book case.

This review is for the Tiny Folio of "Audubon's Birds of America." It's a gorgeous little book, very thick but very small dimensions - it can fit in the palm of your hand easily! Nonetheless, the images in it are beautiful and the book is very well-made. We are studying Audubon in our homeschool and my young children adore this little book; its tiny size makes it irresistible and they never grow tired of looking at the many images it contains. We will be checking the large folio out from the library, but if you love Audubon's artwork but don't have room for or can't afford the giant edition, this tiny book will delight children and adults alike!

I'm generally not a fan of YA thrillers and was a little put off by the sci-fi/paranormal aspect of the blurb, but I decided to give this one a try after seeing a friend rave about how much she enjoyed the ARC. I went into this with low expectations (I haven't really found a YA thriller I enjoyed), but I was quickly blown away with how good this book is. Like, so good that I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. Kennedy and Nolan are very believable characters, both dealing with traumatic family lives and grief. I can usually guess the plot twists in YA thrillers, but this one kept throwing me for a loop. The ending was extremely satifying. It wrapped up nicely, something I don't incredibly enjoy in thrillers, but the wrap-up in this one was perfect. I also loved the fact that even though things were wrapped up, the author opted to make sure the reader understood that there was still a Before and After for each of these families and that even though there was closure and healing, things could never go back to the way they were Before.

I adored this book! I loved the two main characters Kennedy and Nolan. This story was told from alternating perspectives and I think that’s what kept me from wanting to put it down! In one chapter you would hear Kennedy’s thoughts and it would flawlessly switch to Nolan’s thoughts in the next chapter. I never had to guess what the other was thinking but I was constantly excited to get to the next chapter to find out!!I enjoyed how the story progressed for me. I thought it was well thought out and very well written. Megan Miranda is one of my favorite authors and her writing style really appeals to me.I am mostly left wondering how things end up. I felt like there were a few loose ends at the end of the book and it leaves me wondering if there will be a second book or if I’ll always be left to wonder!All in all I really enjoyed this and would highly recommend!

I love all Megan Miranda novels and this was no different. Great story and full of surprises! Definitely a must read!

The cover and title caught my eye for a listing of YA thrillers and then the blurb sealed the deal with mentions of missing people and hidden messages in strange signal frequencies. Everything about Come Find Me was new to me and I was all set to plunge in for an exciting listen. My instinct was spot on. I loved this one and it only got better as it went down it's twisting path to the end.Come Find Me is a standalone YA thriller with sci-fi elements. It is dual narrated by the pair of protagonists who each have their own horrific past experiences of loss and receive the mysterious signal. Kennedy and Nolan were strangers until they joined together in a quest to get the answers to the signal which led them to facing the dark shadows of their past which has reached out to them in the present.I enjoyed how the book gave me one impression, particularly about Kennedy, when the story began and then peeled back the layers to reveal that things were something different. I don't have a lot of patience for teens causing more drama than necessary or being so self-absorbed that adults look stupid or like the enemy. It started down that road with Kennedy and her young uncle who was doing the best he could along with her withdrawal from the other kids, but then more comes out and her issues made a lot more sense. Nolan's situation was pretty cut and dry, sadly, from the beginning until much later.While I do have to constantly remind myself that I'm listening to a book about and for the Young Adult crowd, at the same time, I found that this author nailed it on the right maturity level for thinking and actions of her teen leads and for how they would be after experiencing the tragedies they did. In fact, I found them more well adjusted than I'm pretty sure that I would be. Their gradual strangers to friends and then friends to romantic interest was at a good pace and their relationships with others around them were right where they needed to be, too. Considering what she was dealing with, Kennedy landed well with her mom's young grad student uncle who I really liked even when Kennedy put him through his paces with her grief, anger, and secrets. But, it was Nolan my heart went out to. His older brother disappeared and from then on, he became a non-entity in his own home and with his parents. He lost everything when Liam disappeared and not just Liam.The mystery of the signals was sensational. I loved how the author had me totally guessing what we were dealing with there. Extra-terrestrial? Paranormal? Ordinary mystery? I kept bouncing around with my guesses as twists unveiled more.YA Warnings: mild language, moderate violenceCome Find Me had two narrators with Michael Crouch taking Nolan's part and Jorjeana Marie narrating Kennedy. I thought they were both fabulous narrators and this story came alive and was taunt with suspense and emotion because of their work. Their voices were a tad too mature for the teens, but I didn't mind, and would definitely rather that than trying too hard and distracting me. They certainly caught the tone and voiced the whole cast of characters well.All in all, this was an incredible listen and I would recommend it to YA and adults alike who enjoy sci-fi thrillers.

I bought this for my son to read for a third grade biography book report. He loves baseball and asked for a book about Jackie Robinson. He enjoys this book and constantly comments on the interesting facts he is learning. This speaks well of the book as he is, putting it charitably, a reluctant reader.I read the book myself as well. I don't expect a biography aimed at elementary school children to have the same level of complexity or subtlety as a biography for adults. Still, the author lost credibility by stating that UCLA is in Pasadena. UCLA is over 20 miles from Pasadena. Instead of saying UCLA is "right in Pasadena," the author could have said UCLA is "a short ride from Pasadena" (which would have been true when Robinson attended, even though not true in today's traffic) without either confusing his young readers or stating a false fact. The blooper about Pasadena made me wonder what other facts the author got wrong.Still, this is a valuable story for kids to read. It affords a much-needed history lesson on life in segregated America during the first half of the 20th century, and inspiration on two fronts: Jackie Robinson's determination to succeed in a world that was set up to marginalize him, and the controversial but courageous efforts of two principled men, Robinson and Brooklyn Dodgers General Manager Branch Rickey, to clear a trail toward justice--and better baseball. Over the six-year period starting in 1947 when Robinson joined the Dodgers, the team won four National League pennants. Recommended, especially for sports-loving kids.

I liked reading this gentleman's ideas, but I do not agree that ALL psychological ideas or research are "psychobabble". Rather I think modern psychology has shed much light & even medical developments, to deal w/many ills of the human being. I also consider that "throwing out the [religious] baby w/the bath water" of many psychologists/sociologists to describe/attempt cures for every personal/social ill is equally distorted. In short, there is a balance to be had in using our religious knowledge with modern scientific study.

This is a powerful testimony and urgent message from a man who has been on both sides of the psychology and Biblical counselingworld views. As a trained psychotherapist he saw the failure of psychology to change lives and yet continued in it because of the financial rewards in such a practice. After his conversion, God opened his eyes when he saw two men who were hopeless cases in the mental hospital where he worked. Both of these men trusted in Jesus Christ as their savior and were totally changed and left the institution with Dr. Ganz when his position was terminated because of his witness to these men. Dr. Ganz later made the transition from psychology to Biblical counseling and is a leading advocate for the truth that psychology and Christian counseling can not be mixed.

This was required reading for some training in progress and I applaud Ganz for his work. He hits the nail on the head for why man's wisdom of psychology does not mix with biblical counseling which is based on God's wisdom as revealed in the inspired Word of God. It is a quick read but it presented me with some things to really consider as I evaluate my own ministry and how I disciple others. I ended up purchasing a second copy to loan out to others. Buy it, it's good!

This is an amazing book. We , as a society, have been so imbued with the message that Psychology is the answer. It isn't . It has no answers to the pain and suffering in the world. The answer is in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is the answer. Everything else is superficial and temporary.

I met the author at a conference, and he really knows his stuff. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially those who have problems, and/or know someone who does. Thank you -- it's a bit pricier than some, but well worth it.

Excellent book on the difference between modern psychology and biblical counseling. Mr. Ganz does a fabulous job of describing both methods and his experience as an ex-psychotherapist gives much credibility to his work!

Gave great insight and depth to the topic at hand. It was well written and a joy to read. I will read it again soon.
