Good book so far, still getting in to it

AWESOME BOOK written by my Friend and former coworker Ben Curry!!!

Full disclosure I provided some PowerShell for the book but until I bought it I had never seen any of the other content. Really impressed with what is provided. To my knowledge there isn't another book that attempts to address the transition to the cloud like this does. As an example, if you are on premises SharePoint technologist there will be big changes in how you use PowerShell.

I really enjoyed the Forever Life book. I read it in one day. The humor between Jon and Al was sharp, witty and made the book more enjoyable for me. The only objection was being put off by some foul language that did not add anything to the plot. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars. Short fast read.

A violent collision occurs on Jupiter, radically affecting its orbit. In about one hundred years, it will destroy Earth; a new home for humans must be found. Since we're talking light years to possible new planets, taking many years to explore, human astronauts are not a good choice. Jon Ryan has his being transferred into an android who looks and thinks exactly like him, does not need provisions, and can remain "alive" for hundreds of years or more.I enjoyed reading this book. It has interesting adventures, a sassy A.I. ship controller, lots of humor, and a couple of aliens who become part of the crew. It's exciting enough to encourage you to move on to the next book in the series.

The main character development was better than most space operas. The science in orbital disruption is plausible and no Faster Than Light travel - yet. Good science but time travel slips in. Not a fan of time travel paradox to help a plot. I just have not been able to get my brain around traveling backwards (as we perceive it) in time.Forward time travel due to traveling a large percentage of the speed of light, yes. In reverse direction just does not seem plausible.

The very concept of downloading a human consciousness into an exact duplicate android is intriguing enough, but that’s only the beginning.One thing I particularly liked was the fast pace. Ten years pass in a sentence so what happens is left to the reader’s imagination and moves to the next real adventure. No long tedious explanations of stuff way above my pay grade!And it’s funny! The exchanges between Jon and Al the ship’s AI are priceless and only get better when two more sentient beings are added to the mix.One more thing: Did the author get a big boost from “Gulliver’s Travels?” Some of the planetary visits seemed awfully familiar. Good show!Can’t wait to read the next book.

In an effort to find habitable worlds, androids piloting starships are sent out looking for potential new homes. This first book revolves around the exploits of Col. Jon Ryan as he sets off on his eighty year journey of exploration. Interesting and likable characters coupled with a well written story line makes this well worth your time to read.

Good news you have found a series that feels like a future not too far off but where humans look forward to how to best save themselves over the long, long, long run. If you were given the chance to help usher the human race forward into better times, could you say no? Jon says yes, and it is so worth taking this ride with him. Best news, there are many many books in multiple series of Jon saving the universe piece by piece available, come along.

This is a sci fi pulp novel that reads like Flash Gordon. Put any thoughts of science fact aside and enjoy the ride.

The idea of an android 's adventures trying to find a new home for humanity is one that I seldom see.Enjoyed the characters developed in the book, especially the doughnut people.As soon as I finished this book I immediately download the next in the series.Keep up the good work.

I'm not sure why Rosemary Lord's book LOS ANGELES THEN AND NOW received such a low rating? Perhaps it was because it didn't meet with reviewers' expectations, or some other reason, I'm not sure. I've been looking for a photo book that shows the city of downtown Los Angeles during the 50s-70s and so far this is the closest I've found.Of course, the "then" and "now" photos are much older and newer than my chosen date range, some from the late 1800s where there was nothing but one building and a dirt field, but I still found the pictures fascinating.Each photo shows an area of Los Angeles with a photo of it then, and how it looks in the present day (or at least early 2000-ish when the book was published), and provides a brief synopsis of the area's history and what changes, if any, are there now.I deducted one-star because most of the photographs don't have dates, and there isn't address information listed in the captions. Also, there seemed to be a huge concentration of pictures of Hollywood and movie studios, which is fine but Lord also has Hollywood Then and Now (Then & Now), so it makes me wonder why use them in this book?And some reviewers had a problem with the angles of the "now" shots not being the same, but I didn't have a issue with it. It does happen occasionally, but in some instances it would be impossible to shoot the same angle because what was once a vacant field, now has a building in it's place. So that wasn't a problem for me, plus there's enough landmark information contained in both photographs so that the viewer can recognize both as being from the same place.Anyway, this isn't a book to use as a pre-tour book of Los Angeles or to plan an upcoming vacation here, and I'm still looking for a photography book on Los Angeles that really shows it's heyday (so if you know of one please post in the comments), but it's an interesting book nevertheless.

This is the 2nd of Toni's books I have picked up. (First being Bullets and Bosses Don't have Friends). While I don't have the same reasons for needing to bolster my skillset, I do feel a kinship in the realization that I have hit a wall in my career and I am never going to break through that wall without a paper document saying I have completed college. Like her, I went back to college several years out of high school. It's nice to read someone's success story when you're dealing with much the same thing under different circumstances.I particularly like the quotes that are used in the beginning of each chapter. I have two favorites. Chapter 6 "Any fool can know. The point is to understand." - Albert Einstein. Before she starts to talk about what she didn't know and how her Professor helped her to realize what she didn't know and how to fix it. My most recently completed semester had a teacher who also went the extra mile in that fashion. He would say "There's a difference between being able to do it, and knowing how to do it." That statement really took me back and made me realize just how much I don't KNOW how to do just because I CAN do it.My second favorite quote was "Power Corrupts. Knowledge is power. Study hard. Be evil." - Unknown. Sometimes you just really need a kick in the butt to focus, and this book really helped remind me WHY I needed to study hard and persevere.The author is spot on about "Finding the Tribe". If you can join a study group. Do it. We are still trying to get together but there are only 5 in our pilot program and we live long distances from each other. (over snowed in mountain passes type long, not across town jump on the bus long)The book tells the story of the author breaking past the poverty cycle, and being the hero of her family. She becomes the "normal" instead of settling for what she can do. She sets the bar, and inspires those who follow her. I thought it was pretty amazon the list of college credentials her family now has - thanks to the road she paved in showing it CAN be done.You're still paving that road Toni!! In fact, while I was reading your book, I received a call from my college today congratulating me on a scholarship I had won, and now they want to work with me on my graduation plan!! Thanks for being an inspiration!!! Sometimes others just need a kick in the butt to get the ball rolling again. In my case, I needed to read that it is possible, and remind myself that it is possible.

Imagine being the first African-American woman in your family to go to college. That's what author Toni Crowe did in 1979, which paved the way for the rest of her family to follow in her pioneering footsteps. This tale is the true story of not only what Toni experienced, but provides different tips to survive higher education, which are still relevant today. For example, according to Mrs. Crowe- “Professors are paid to help you ... sleep is a luxury. The most reliable trick is to drink three big glasses of water before you go to sleep. That simple. You will wake up about three and a half hours later, and when you do, you’ll be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed because your bladder will be killing you. After you use the restroom to get rid of all that water you deliberately drank, you’re awoke. Now you can go to work.” Please excuse the minor spelling issues, hazard of the book. Anyway, that water truck actually works! So does sleeping in a strange place in your house, not your bedroom or the couch. Yo wake up wondering where in the world you are, not to mention how you got there, weird! Something I really liked is that each chapter began with a different famous quote.. I wish I’d read this short self help narrative when I was going to college. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone preparing to start or return to a four-year university.

I love this book!!. As soon as I opened it I was sold. This book tells the story of the author breaking barriers and becoming a hero as the first black woman in her family to go to college. She redefines her life instead of settling based on the cards she was dealt with. Toni Crowe depicts her college career the good, bad and ugly. She is a true inspiration and leader which is evident by the list of college credentials her family currently has thanks to her paving the way and proving greatness can be achieved no matter the circumstances.I am an American American woman so this book really stood out and spoke to me. I was lucky enough to attend college and now I am on the path to becoming a successful business owner. Any doubt I ever feel I will refer back to this for motivation. It really does give you that push and reminder that anything is possible. If I knew about the book while going to college I would have been light years ahead. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone preparing to start college no matter your age.One of my favorite things about the book we’re the famous quotes at the beginning of each chapter it gave me so much motivation to become a better version of myself. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

This is a compact, readable, and very useful guide for anyone who would like to start selling beaded items or other handmade projects. In very few words, the author manages to cover lots of essentials like getting a business license, dealing with tax responsibilities, purchasing materials, setting up a business (online or not), pricing sensibly, marketing, staying open and creative, shipping, etc. etc.The author concludes the book with a helpful Q&A chapter. I especially appreciated her discussion of the mistakes that people typically make in getting started. The book is written with teens as well as adults in mind, and though she focuses on the basic essentials, I found in inspiring.Highly recommended to anyone with a desire to have some fun, and with some good planing and effort, share it with others.

This is a great book for anyone interested in selling their beaded crafts/jewelry. It covers legal documents/licensing, inventory, marketing and work issues. It is very informative and useful. It is easy to read and organized well.

By far the most useful book on it’s topic. Well written. Very logically laid out. My hard copy is dogeared and highlighted. Only problem: Like Google, Amazon evolves constantly and has moved past some of the things in this book. I look forward to reviewing the authors’ updates to this material in due course. For those interested in selling on the Amazon Marketplace this is a great, instructive read, particularly around the pros and cons of various distribution strategies available on the channel, with insight into the many challenges brands may face, including actual seller examples.

As Amazon continues to change the retail landscape worldwide, budding online entrepreneurs like me, with meager resources can now seize the opportunity to market to the world (as we sit in front of our computers at our home office). While it was not even technically possible decades ago, Amazon made it all possible. But the hurried pace that this online selling revolution is morphing into, is so dizzying -it is hard for most of us to keep up and make selling in Amazon a viable sustainable venture. This book by James and Joe forces us to get out heads above the melee and see how things more clearly and appreciate how things are actually playing out in the Amazon marketplace. Sure, this book can scare you about Amazon’s predatory nature but it also provides you with knowledge that will not only dampen the fear but will give you tested tips on how to set yourself up for success as an Amazon seller.

I work with companies to help them build and market their brands. Amazon has become a huge part of the distribution channel for many of these companies and it can be very confusing as to the right strategy to use. James and Joseph have helped clarfy this with their new book.I have been waiting for a book with this depth of knowledge to be written.
