Robert E. Emery, PhD, is Professor of Psychology and Director of the Center for Children, Families, and the Law at the University of Virginia. His research focuses on family relationships and children’s mental health, with interests including parental conflict, divorce, mediation, child custody, family violence, genetically informed studies of family life, and associated legal and policy issues. He has authored over 150 scientific publications. His other books on divorce include Marriage, Divorce, and Children’s Adjustment, Second Edition, and The Truth about Children and Divorce: Dealing with the Emotions So You and Your Children Can Thrive. He also is coauthor, with Thomas F. Oltmanns, of Abnormal Psychology, Seventh Edition. Great book for understanding family dynamics and relationships, how they are affected by divorce, and how to approach those types of mediation situations given a variety of factors.

I ordered this book and had it delivered to me because I needed it for a Psychology of Divorce and Separation class at my University. Great book! I easily understood the concepts and ideas the author presented and found it a very interesting read.

As a student of family mediation this publication was exactly what I needed. It gives a clear and understandable account (supported by research) of the parents and child's emotional states and responses when important relationships break up - with tools to help the mediator. For me it is a text I will refer to time and again whilst planning for a mediation.

Loved this textbook great information regarding the legal aspect of divorce as well as the emotional process.

This is a must have for anyone who works with children of divorce and high conflict families. Robert Emery is excellent.

I ordered this set as an aide to learning Spanish medical terms. Since I am already fluent in English/Spanish I really just needed the more specific Spanish terminology for such terms as CT scan, coagulation, arthroscopy, etc. Since I was already placing an order for a Spanish Medical Dictionary, I tossed this one in with the order just in case.For someone who is not already familiar with Spanish, this is obviously a great tool. It's neatly divided into categories such as Common Commands, Days of the Week, Numbers and Time, Common Questions, etc. It also includes typical interview questions such as "hello, I'm Dr ---" "How long have you been sick?" etc. Categories are also included for the interview, medical history, the physical exam, diagnosis & medication, tests, and nursing instruction.Something to keep in mind is that these cards are basically a one-sided interview/conversation. It's a great tool for helping you ask the correct question, but if you are unable to correctly interpret the patient's answer, it may not be of much use.With a little knowledge of Spanish pronunciation, these cards are the perfect aide to the healthcare professional. (Note that no pronunciation guide is included and you must have a basic understanding of Spanish pronunciation and some abbreviations as well.)In my case, the only actual part that was of any real use to me was the relatively small column of medical terms and the tests. Nevertheless, I would recommend it to other bilinguals in the case that you need to learn a few basic medical terms on the go since it does fit neatly in a shirt pocket.

Contains many medical terms and the term's Spanish equivalent. These cards are OK. However, be aware: The print is very, very, tiny. I needed to purchase a pocket magnifying screen.

So the geniuses who shipped this to me put a giant barcode sticker on one of the cards. It's one of those paper barcode stickers that don't come off clean, so it's been a giant pain to get off. That and the print is insanely tiny. it's really hard to read.

I bought this card when i came to the US to start my residency, after I found out that not every patient speaks English. Now, after 20 months, I don't need to carry it with me anymore, since in a few months almost all words and phrases have become part of my routine. The most important benefit though, is that the communication with the Spannish speaking population has markedly improved and i feel more comfortable taking history from them.This card has been a good tool and overall is highly reecommended, but don't expect it to be like having a translator or being able to understand everything in Spannish

Really enjoyed reading this as an introductory way to better understand Buddhism history and it’s branches. By the middle of the book though, it becomes a bit tedious and repetitive and it doesn’t take a shrink to recognize indoctrination when you see it. But the read is worth it because I believe one must understand a religion before following it or debating it, either or. I simply like knowledge of many religions and this book served that purpose on an introductory level. I like many aspects of Buddishm and this book helped me with a lot of questions I had about it. Also helped me see the factual dangers of this religion due to abuse of heirarchy and possible damage to self-worth if wielded incorrectly (as ANY religion can be) and this better brought about clarity of history of SEVERAL Asian countries, (like Cambodia and China) when combined with other in-depth knowledge of past wars, government structure and cultural mindset.Very interesting indeed and glad to have it in my collection.

A must have read for students and those - well, anyone - attracted to Buddhism and the philosophy. Venerable Chodron, the author of several books on Buddhism, clearly has a talent for helping the reader understand the 'one garden, many paths' approach to the subject. As a novice Buddhist, I found this book to be a wonderful clarification of the different traditions of Buddhism.

Very clear and concise exposition of the differences and commonalities among the various traditions in Buddhism. Some of the statements outlining the Buddha's centeral teachings alone are worth the price of this book. Highly recommended.

Solid book but does not really go into the various buddhist schools the ways i was hoping. I ended up using wikipedia to understand the difference between therevada vs mahayana....to learn about non sectarian movements like the vipassana movement in the US etc...

I was fortunate to have met Frankie twice before I read the book. This gave me the face and voice to put the words to. Frankie does a wonderful job of taking you through his life experiences in a way that you just can't put the book down. For me the book is about much more than dancing Lindy Hop. It's about how to live your life which is finding your passion and becoming the best, not to become famous or rich, but because it gives you purpose and that gives others inspiration. Thanks for putting Frankie's life into words. He is someone I wish my kids, grand kids and all future generations could have met. I hope this book soon becomes a movie so all the world can once again see Frankie Manning on the dance floor.

Certainly, every Lindy Hopper must read this book. But I think it's a beautiful and important book for people outside of the swing dance community too. Frankie Manning was an unsung hero. He and the other members of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers helped were instrumental in a dance that shaped and influenced our culture and our history.

This is a book every Lindy Swing Dancer should read. If you love Lindy, you should know the history, and most of all, know who Frankie Manning is!!!! I've bought one for each of my dance helpers as gifts of thank you. I got mine the day it was released!
