I have used this map for two trips to Rome, lent it to friends for their own trip, and am using it for my third trip in October. I keep it at hand as I do my planning, and carry it with me for reference as I travel about the city. The map is detailed with all the major and minor sights, streets and roads, remains of the Aurelian Walls, and Metro stops. Major sights such as St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon are represented by oversized realistic line drawings that make them even easier to pick out. Locations of important non-touristic places such as post offices, hospitals, and police stations are also indicated on this map.Unlike another reviewer below, my version of the map - copyright 2013 - has all of Rome on one side, and indexes, a close-up of Vatican City, general information, and schemata of the Metro system and Fiumicino Airport on the other side. The map is printed on a plastic-type material (perhaps it is plastic-laminated paper) that is difficult to tear and has contributed to its longevity despite my extensive use. Rain does not faze this map one bit. I have annotations for my favorite sights and restaurants written right on it, although ink takes time to dry on the plastic surface. The scale is sufficient so that streets and points of interest are clearly marked and easy to identify; however, the large scale also means the map does not extend nearly as far as I would like, extending West only as far as the Western edge of Vatican City, and the southern edge cuts off half the Baths of Caracalla. Also, the depictions of the Pantheon and Vittoriano show both buildings facing South (probably to ease recognition) when in fact they are both oriented North. However, these are minor quibbles. This is a great map with more than enough detail for the average tourist. I highly recommend this map!
I'm a bit of an over-planner. I determine agendas for each day, pick areas of a city to explore, and literally determine which roads we will walk down to accomplish our set plan for the day. I love that about myself. I own it, and I work with it. Thus, for a our trip to Rome last year I bought no less than five separate maps. This was the best map of all of them. It has all of the major sites and roadways, it's easy to read, and very importantly easy to write/mark on. I liked it so much I just reordered the same map to plan for our upcoming trip in November!
Got this for my kid who was off to Rome for a semester abroad. It turned out to be very useful, especially given high foreign data costs and the limitations of teeny tiny cell phone screens in the bright summer sun. She beat the hell out of it, but it held together and was extremely useful both for navigating by foot and bicycle. Not only did it lead her to all of the major landmarks, but it helped her discover many less common sights and, perhaps more importantly, aided in navigating home. She particularly appreciated the water-resistant coating when the paper maps of her friends fell apart.
We bought this to help plan our trip to Rome this summer. I thought it would be stiff because it would be laminated, but instead, they achieved waterproof by printing on a waterproof synthetic paper substance that is super flexible. It has all the info you could need. It helped us gather our intended destinations into groups by geography so that we wouldn’t spend our time and money traveling to multiple parts of the city in the same day (like not putting the colosseum and the Vatican on the same day.
Bought for my trip to Rome. Was incredibly useful, could even use it out in the rain, was able to fold it different ways depending on what part of town I was in. Really liked the information that came in the little pamphlet and the map itself has large font, image for the biggest tourist spots and is very legible, would definitely recommend!
I must have read what I wanted to read in the description. This is a great map for the historic center of Rome, but I want to go to Testaccio and this map barely gets there. Streets aren't named and the Piramide Metro stop isn't on the map. I wanted more of Rome. I am using "Walking Rome" and this map was said to go with it, but it doesn't quite do that.
It rained almost every day while in Rome and this map was great. It held up and was amazing. I would not leave home without this type of map. It's well made and has everything you need on it, along with being durable and waterproof. Good purchase.
This map was fantastic and had transit as well, however it cut off part of the area that we needed (which is still technically part of the city). It would have been nice to have more coverage, however the transit coverage was complete and the map still worked really well.
