This book was an excellent read! Scarily, it was reminiscent of several cases that I have seen transpire in the foster care system. However, I am coming from a different angle - I am actually a foster parent. I have seen children returned to homes and almost returned to homes where the things she mentioned in this book and similar things were occurring. The foster care agencies and the judges turn a blind eye to what is going on with the child(ren) and give abusive or neglectful biological parent chance after chance after chance to the detriment of the child(ren). It's scary. There are kids who have been in the system for ten years or more, kids that age out that should have been placed with a different resource years prior. Foster care is supposed to be a temporary situation, not a permanent solution. If you see that a biological parent has not gotten their act together in, oh, TEN YEARS, I think it is safe to say that the plan for that child should not be reunification. Yet, that is what is happening. Do not be fooled into thinking that federal law prevents this, because it does not.Amato-Bansfield was right on so many points. Dealing with the child welfare system is like dealing in an upside-down world, where the criminals have all the rights and the law abiding citizens have no say. There ARE cases where abusive parents use the child welfare system to further the abuse against their partners and CPS plays along with it, because their goal is to keep families in tact, even if the relationship is toxic. They will refer the couple for marital counseling, instead of referring the abused partner for DV or individual counseling. The workers at CPS are not necessarily licensed social workers, another reason why they do not have the same training or insight as a social worker would in these matters.Amato-Bansfield is correct, the system really does need to be revamped. The welfare of the children need to be at the forefront. Parents who maintain their children's welfare need to be supported by the system, not have their children taken away from them and given to abusive parents. If you are dealing with a case in the child welfare system that has gone upside-down READ THIS BOOK. I think that you will see a part of your own case in this book.Amato-Bansfield did a great job putting down her experiences on paper. Sometimes when you speak of your own experiences you don't know how many in the audience can relate.
I appreciate how Francesca Amato-Banfield has shared her experiences, and those of others traumatized by corrupt common practices in family court.Francesca is a Christian and is very outspoken about her faith. So am I, so I didn't mine her sharing her beliefs and scriptures. She seems to be writing for a Christian audience, and some readers may not appreciate that.It seems that the author may be over-generalizing, painting all "judges, child attorneys, and public defenders" as "abusive bullies" but this is a book of her experiences, and perceptions, and opinions. Results may vary. I have had my own family court experiences and I have witnessed and endured similar injustices and abuses. The family court system is corrupt and makes bad situations worse. Too often bad behavior is rewarded and the more fit (or the ONLY fit parent) is "punished for protecting." It is almost unbelievable. Francesca calls out the bad actors by name. In addition to railing against the abuses in the system, the author details the efforts she has made in trying to bring about positive changes that will benefit children and families and encourages others to work to inform the public and get concerns addressed. She offers hope and encouragement to other family court victims, and ends the book by citing caselaw that affirms the rights of parents.I recommend this book. ---Lydia A. Hubbell
This is a must read book for those who are enduring the hardship of being separated from your child/children due to the current Family Court practices and CPS system. From the very moment I began reading this book I could not put it down, I personally experienced so many emotions as I read her story. It is an easy read and I encourage anyone who is in the same situation to purchase your copy today. You will read about Fran's personal experience and see the heartache and frustration that she had encountered as she was separated from her son. Her faith in God has seen her through this horrific ordeal and now she has formed a coalition due to her own personal experience and she is helping countless others who are experiencing the same situation. Fran's story is inspiring, uplifting, and gives hope. In addition, Fran has also provided effective and practical tools that are necessary to help those who are in need, to assist you in being reunited with your child/children. I am blessed to know Fran personally and I witnesses first hand how God had turned her tragedy into triumph. God Bless you Fran, your friend Laura L. Thompson
The author is an inspiration to any parent struggling with unfair judicial decisions regarding child custody. She challenges the system for the love, best interest, and protection of her child with determination by knowing what is right and what is very wrong.
This book was heart felt. It's so hard for parents going through this. To see this writer perspective let me know there are a lot of people going through this.
Very helpful my fight is never over and even though this witch hunt is on going so is my fight for my daughter!
This book was a God send for me. It gave me true and accurate information about the family court system and the affirmation that it is my God given right to protect and raise the children God gave me.
I absolutely loved this book and can see how this is happening all over the place. Family court is making terrible decisions that are hurting families. This woman is amazing.
